American Muslim Entertainers: Comedy,Music and Television

This post will give you a rough teaser on various notable Muslims in the entertainment industry.

These first two comedians were both a part of the comedy group “The Axis of Evil”.

Firstly, there is Iranian American Actor and Comedian Maz Jiobrani, who regularly performs at comedy clubs in New York and California.

Secondly, there is Egyptian American Actor and Comedian Ahmed Ahmed, who regular performs at “The Comedy Store”.

I’ve probably watched the DVD recording of their earliest tour at least a thousand times, I just find it really relatable since it finds humor in racial stereotypes.

In the Music Industry, three notable artists are Akon, Lupe Fiasco and DJ Khaled.

Akon, also known as Aliaune Damala Akon Thiam, is an American R&B and Hip Hop singer/songwriter. One of the notable things about Akon is that he stated as a Muslim he “does not drink nor smoke.”

DJ Khaled Khaled is an American Disk Jockey specializing in the Hip hop genre of music. He has notably collaborated with many other influential artists including Akon, T.I., Drake and T-Pain.

Lupe Fiasco, also known as Wasalu Muhammad Jaco, is an American Hip hop rapper of West African descent. He grew up in Harvey, Illinois in a lower class neighborhood. Early in his career Fiasco found himself rapping about drugs and prostitution which were the very things he was trying to get away from.

Finally in the television industry, there is Dr. Mehmet Oz. Dr. Oz is a Turkish-American cardiothoracic surgeon, author, and television personality. His show, the Doctor Oz show covers a variety of medical issues ranging from Type 2 Diabetes to how to change your diet to improve your overall quality of life.
